American Valve FAQ

What is limescale?

When water comes from areas that contain high calcium or magnesium carbonate, hard water leaves mineral deposits commonly known as "limescale" or "scale".

How does limescale affect pipes?

Inside pipes, limescale can narrow the passage of water, creating blockages and uneven flow. It also encourages corrosion, leaving your plumbing more vulnerable to leaks and failures. Beyond pipes, it leaves visible residue on fixtures, laundry, and dishes, turning everyday chores into a hassle.

Why is limescale bad for your home plumbing and appliances?

Limescale forms when minerals in hard water accumulate inside pipes and appliances. Over time, it reduces water flow, strains heating systems, and can cause permanent damage to faucets, boilers, and water-using appliances. This buildup increases energy costs and leads to costly repairs or replacements.

How does ScaleRx work?

ScaleRx uses a patented Turbulent Galvanic Polarization (TGP) system to disrupt the formation of limescale crystals. Independent testing shows ScaleRx reduces scale accumulation by 76%. In side-by-side comparison testing, it was four times more effective than the leading electronic scale reduction device.

Do I have limescale buildup?

Over 85% of American homes have hard water that causes limescale build-up, reducing the lifespan and efficiency of waters heaters and home appliances.

Where can ScaleRx be used?

ScaleRX is designed for use with any residential water heater, while ScaleRX Home can be installed directly on your main water line. Each unit replaces just under 12 inches of pipe, so make sure there’s enough clearance around fittings or other obstacles for proper installation.

How long does ScaleRx last?

The product is maintenance-free and contains no filters. Built from durable 304 stainless steel, it has been tested to remain effective for over 12 years of continuous use.

Can I install ScaleRx outside?

Built with durable stainless-steel components, ScaleRx can withstand harsh outdoor conditions. Keep in mind, though, that the optional SharkBite™ fittings included with ScaleRx Home are not rated for outdoor use.

What type of pipe do I need to use?

ScaleRx works with a variety of residential pipes, including hard copper (types L, K, and M), PEX, HDPE, PE-RT, CPVC, and PVC. Brass or plastic adapters can also be used to make connections where needed.

Why doesn't ScaleRx need an external power source?

By using patented TGP® turbines to generate turbulence and a small galvanic current, these forces disrupt the formation of calcite crystals, preventing limescale buildup without any external power.

How much flow restriction is there?

ScaleRx causes minimal flow restriction, with less than a 1 GPM pressure drop, so it will not noticeably reduce household water pressure.
