White baths are classics, and white fixtures make up 90% of toilet and bathtub sales. White never goes out of style, offering the ultimate palette to create dynamic and head-turning spaces.
As our clients are spending more time in their homes and cleaning and disinfecting more often to safeguard their families, we offer the following suggestions to maintaining white bathrooms. To help assure that your white bath stays in pristine condition, here is some guidance for maintenance:
White Marble
Always use a sealer for your white marble surfaces. Sealer is recommended to help prevent marble and grout from staining. When you seal a marble surface in the bath, it helps prevent watermarks and other stains from appearing on the marble. Make sure you’re using a non-acidic cleaner any time you use a sealer, as the acids will eat through sealer, leaving your marble vulnerable to staining.
How to Deal with Paint Nicks, Scratches and Marks
Inevitably, walls painted white will get scratched, nicked and scuffed. While it is tempting to paint can to fix the scratch, that does not always work because it can leave a different color than the original paint. Use a magic eraser sponge for marks on walls and doors, instead. The magic eraser sponge will not scratch, or scuff and you can use it on white and all colored paints.
Protecting Grout
People often use a toothbrush to clean grout, but toothbrushes won’t stop mold from appearing. We advise our clients to invest in a grout-cleaning rake (available at most home centers) that works much more effectively than a toothbrush. After cleaning grout, we recommend applying a silicone paste that will help prevent mold and marks. Don’t forget to seal your grout like you would any natural stone tile. We also recommend using a stain-resistant grout, especially if using a light color like white or light grey.
Fantastic Floors
To keep your bath floors spotless, vacuum them first and then use a sweeper or broom to clean. This can help assure that every crumb is removed and your floor shines. If you have tile flooring a steam mop will also make cleaning a breeze.
